User Research Conclusion Summation

Conclusions Drawn From User Research Interviews:

People that would be interested in this product in the first place are easily convinced by the extraordinary health benefits. The growing popularity and nutritional notoriety of green tea beverages provides credibility to claims about the leaves from which they are derived. Attitudes formed about green tea leaves do not appear to be unrelated or dissimilar to previously held attitudes toward green tea. The appealing aspects of the beverage are successful selling points for the leaves.
However, there seem to be two variables that must be understood in the target audience: green tea and health knowledge and inclination toward healthy lifestyles. (See diagram below)
Those with high levels of knowledge about the benefits of green tea and healthful consumption are likely to be already sold on the product. Motivation to even begin to act is the only issue for this group.  Those with high inclination toward healthy lifestyles are highly motivated to act. Their barrier to act seems to be ease of object access and task completion, but mostly it seems to be knowledge about green tea. The amount of knowledge sufficient enough for those with high inclination to pursue a healthy lifestyle is minimal. That is, a few words about its great benefits from a friend is enough to generate action.

Certain barriers to action (site visitation, site exploration, purchase of product) were identified in the interviews. Two expressions of doubt of the website’s credibility came from a.) aesthetics and b.) the singular product available. The aesthetics concern  was given a contingency- the interviewee said it would not prevent him from pursuing the acquisition of green tea leaves. The interviewee whom expressed concern with the product availability would prefer a two-sided refutation message. In accordance with the research done by O’Keefe (1999) and Allen (1998), a message that both enhances the credibility/superiority of the product being offered as well as providing cogent reasons why others are not as good is more likely to influence attitudes. The interviewee was informed that the products available were tested alongside others, but the interviewee preferred the superiority of the product over others (and an opportunity to compare) be more obvious.
Interviewee consistently expressed a liking for the large amount of information and the recipes provided. Another well-received aspect of the site is the very accessible and highly pertinent subpage titles.  To summarize general pleasure with the architecture on first look, on interviewer said, “I like how everything I need is right here up at the top. I don’t have to look for what I need.”

Interview #4- Dan

Dan: age-25, from Newark, DE, marketing representative for Miller-Coors, Inc.

Do you use the internet? What do you use the internet for?
Yeah; keeping in touch with people; communication; entertainment; networking; news; almost everything

On a daily basis, what is your internet use like?
I use my blackberry for a lot; check my email then go to a couple different sites I like to look at; check the news

What are your favorite websites?
The chive; facebook; youtube; Men’s health

Have you ever heard of green tea? Have you ever tried it? Do you like it?
Oh yeah; I drink it all the time; I try to drink as much as possible; I love it

Do you know the nutritional benefits of green tea?
It’s awesome for you; it reduces your risk for cancer and all other kinds of things and  can help with cholesterol and stress; plus its great if you’re trying to lose weight; I usually drink it because it just makes me feel super healthy; it gets rid of all the bad stuff

Do you drink green tea? How often?
Yes; daily and sometimes with every meal and more

To what extent would you consider yourself focused on healthy eating/drinking or a healthy lifestyle?
It’s a big priority in my life; I’m recovering from surgery and trying to lose weight while getting stronger again. I’m very focused on just being healthy for life

What are a few of the things you try to do as a part of your regular routine to stay healthy?
I workout everyday; eat a good breakfast; drink a ton of green tea; stay away from fats; even though I love beer, I try to drink very little; stay away from sugary foods; low cholesterol foods; egg whites oatmeal; stretch and do yoga; minimize stress when I can

Does anything ever get in the way of you doing those healthy things? What are the barriers to your healthy lifestyle goals?
Time does, hanging out with friends who don’t share the same goals or need or want the same attention to diet; family needs; sometimes money or just figuring out what is best for me; but mostly my own attitude

Have you ever heard of eating the green tea leaves?
Uh maybe.. but no not really; I thought about it once

Did you know the nutritional benefits of drinking green tea?
No what are they? Same as the drink?

What would I need to do to get you to eat green tea leaves once or regularly?
Show me all the facts about it’s nutrition benefits; show me how you prepare it or take care of it; where I can buy it

What do you think about the site?
Kinda confusing and not too crazy professional but better than anything gI could eer dream of doing; I think it has a lot of good information I would want but it could be presented in a better way so that it’s more convincing right off the bat- or at least so it’s not as much to navigate; I already like green tea but I like all the information on the site; the recipes are really really cool; I’d want to buy it but I kinda would want to know more about where you can get It other than here

Is this website giving you enough information?

Yeah for sure; it’s not my favorite site but I guess it works
